This freestanding Federation home in Lilyfield was initially updated to accommodate a family of four, transforming a run-down dwelling with a new bathroom, cost effective kitchen and covered outdoor entertaining area. After several years of occupation, the owners returned to explore the next stage of the home's evolution, assessing the feasibility of either a two-storey addition or a more economical single-storey extension.

Both schemes were guided by a shared ambition: to preserve the established garden, strengthen the connection between the living spaces and outdoors, and improve the home's functionality. The single-storey option provides enhanced living amenity, while the two-storey proposal introduces an additional bedroom, study and bathroom to support the family's future needs. Both designs were developed to comply with the requirements of the Complying Development approval pathway.
